Teaching

Teaching

In the mornings, I helped instruct a computer class to the local students of Kairo village

The students learned the basics of Microsoft Word, how to create aggregate functions in Excel. I also taught the teacher of the course how to build a website using basic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. He also learned how to use an online website builder such as Wix.
I also got the opportunity to teach English to the students in the literacy class, and they helped to teach me Swahili!

Construction

In the evenings, I aided in the construction of a building for the school

During my time in Zanzibar, the school was building an office space for the teachers.
I aided in the construction by helping mix cement, lay rock, and gather dirt to also support a permaculture project at the school.

Arusha

Arusha

In Arusha, we had the chance to embark on a 2-day safari to two different national parks within northern Tanzania. There, we got to see all sorts of beautiful animals and scenery including zebras, giraffes, elephants, lions, and more! It was an amazing experience, and it gave me new perspective on the vast and unique beauty that Africa has to offer.

Mt. Kilimanjaro

Mt. Kilimanjaro

After our safari in Arusha, we then began what was the hardest journey of my life: Mt. Kilimanjaro. It was a 6-day journey total, split 4.5 days to go to the top, and 1.5 days to return to the bottom. On Day 1, we began at Machame gate around 6,000ft., and by the morning of Day 5, we had reached the peak of the mountain at close to 20,000ft. It was easily the hardest hike I had ever done in my life and a journey that I will always remember.
